It’s basket-style (as opposed to a few models on this list that look like toaster ovens), which means she can “fit way more than a skillet” and “just shake things up” instead of tediously flipping them over on a sheet tray. Cookbook author Julia Turshen (who has the same model but without the see-through window) also appreciates the space. “It just has the perfect ratio of height to width,” he says. The Vortex, however, has a large square footage on the bottom, meaning you can lay everything in a single layer and avoid overcrowding. Bruce Weinstein, co-author of multiple air frying cookbooks, explains that while some models are very tall, which accounts for their overall capacity and ability to fit, say, a big pile of French fries, that setup won’t allow air to flow around as easily and result in the crispy texture you’re after. The Instant Vortex comes recommended by three experts. If you do in fact think an air fryer might fit yours, read on for recommendations sourced from Mims and 11 other experts. It’s just about if it fits your cooking lifestyle.” You either take to it or you don’t (I have friends who love it, whereas I prefer to braise in a pot in the oven for four hours). I think of it as similar to the Instant Pot. “I was never on board with the air fryer fully replacing everything in your kitchen. “I use it as a kitchen helper,” Mims says. This is, of course, beneficial if you’re in a rush to eat, but also if you live in a small space and don’t want to make your kitchen unbearably warm, or want to pull together a quick snack, or reheat leftovers without a fuss. They cook foods way faster than a regular oven with very minimal preheating time, if any at all, to boot. Besides, with an air fryer, you’re taking ”that quality and putting it in a really small contraption, which magnifies it times ten,” says Ben Mims, a Los Angeles Times cooking columnist and author of a cookbook devoted to the appliance.Īir fryers can also be incredibly convenient. That’s because they’re essentially small convection ovens, meaning they have a fan and exhaust system that blows hot air all around your food for more even cooking and browning. But it turns out they also work magic on vegetables, proteins, baked goods, and toast. Yes, the classic snack-y, crunchy foods were what people talked about most when air fryers started rising in popularity several years ago (“it’s akin to deep frying without all the oil” is what I heard over and over again). But now, many interviews for this piece later (and testing one out myself), I more wholeheartedly understand their appeal. I used to be an air-fryer skeptic, believing them to be unnecessary, flashy appliances that were meant to make healthier versions of french fries, mozzarella sticks, and wings - and not useful for much else.

The back up camera on this car is amazing, the bluetooth is easy to use, the remote start is awesome and the new onstar app lets me start, lock and set off alarms from my phone. I am going to look into how much it would cost to get my fog lights put in because I have kind of a treacherous commute to work in the winters and I would feel better having these, but My old car didn't have them so i will live. I am okay with this because I am not a fan sun roofs, in my opinion if they break you are worse off than anything. The LT version that I got did not come with fog lights or a sun roof, but I know that the LTZ version does. The list continues with this moderately great priced car. 4 cylinder, 138 horse power, Remote start, touch screen, Bluetooth, WIFI, Onstar, all wheel drive, traction control, hill assist, back up camera. The attention to detail is amazing from the fog lights to the blue stitching details in the seats. Perfect duel interior, because I hate all leather. So when I randomly stopped one day at a mid sized lot just to take a look at no car in particular, I was presently supersized when they said they still had one in stalk. This time the LT version of the trax and I fell in love this was exactly what I was hoping for, flashy, the right amount of chrome and sleek. I walked out of the dealer ship pretty disappointed. Just your typical compact SUV crossover, nothing special. In the long run I am in love! I looked at these cars in early January, found them at a big box store Chevy dealer, where they only had stock models which I was not impressed with one bit. This is probably not the first color i would of picked but it has grown on me and give the car even more personality. My car is as I call it, bright a** red, but the official color is siren red. My husband are die hard Chevy fans and this year in particular we feel as if they took the driving experience to a whole new level. I have had my eye on this car ever since they announced it basically a year ago. With these combined abilities, the Bird-of-Prey was able to strike its enemies at will, practically undetected and unchallenged. It also carried a number of nuclear weapons. This class of starship had a single forward torpedo launcher. The aft of the ship was designed with a raised "fin." Tactical systems Īlthough incapable of matching the Federation's Constitution-class starship one-on-one, the ship still featured several technological advances that were previously unattainable to Federation science: the first practical invisibility screen, and the massively powerful plasma torpedo. Grey in color, with its namesake bird design painted on the hull, the bird-of-prey was essentially a saucer with parallel warp nacelles mounted port and starboard of the main body. Remarkably similar in design to contemporaneous Federation starships, the Romulan bird-of-prey was designed with a sole primary hull configuration. In 2375, information on this class of starship was assimilated by the Borg drone One from the database aboard USS Voyager. Īfter the Romulan-Klingon Alliance of 2268, the Bird-of-Prey was largely supplanted by the more massive and more versatile Klingon D7-class battle cruiser, although some were used in concert with the D7s. When the Enterprise violated the Neutral Zone on the orders of Commodore Stocker in 2267, it was ambushed by a squadron of ten Birds-of-Prey. Typically during an incursion, one Bird-of-Prey will bring a starship out of warp with a plasma torpedo to allow the ships in its battle group to attack the target en masse. The Romulans later used larger numbers to patrol their border with the Federation in force. The USS Enterprise responded to the alert and engaged in a tense game of cat-and-mouse with the intruder for more than ten hours, before the Bird-of-Prey was destroyed. The Federation Starfleet first encountered this vessel in 2266, when a single ship of this type crossed the Romulan Neutral Zone and attacked several border outposts, destroying them utterly. Gaining its name from the bold pattern of an alien bird's feathers painted on the ship's ventral hull, the Romulan bird-of-prey was the successor of a 22nd century counterpart of similar design. Voice actress Kana Ueda was also in attendance and placed 5th in the Gundam Versus tournament. The side tournament is notable for the large amount of support it received from Bandai Namco, Sega, and other developers. Side events Īs with the previous two years, the AnimEVO series of side tournaments, which is dedicated to airdasher fighting games was at the event with more than sixteen fighting games that were competed in including Catherine, Gundam Versus, Puyo Puyo Tetris, Guilty Gear XX Accent Core Plus R and Under Night In-Birth EXE: Late as well as former EVO titles Persona 4 Arena Ultimax and Pokkén Tournament. Although Pokkén Tournament lost the Make-A-Wish Foundation poll, in recognition of the Pokkén scenes passion for their game as shown by being the second most funded fighting game Joey Cuellar offered $10,000 for pot bonuses towards various tournaments surrounding the game. In an interview with PVP Live's Amanda Stevens, veteran Super Street Fighter II Turbo player and commentator, James Chen had mixed opinions regarding the lineup praising Guilty Gear and BlazBlue's simultaneous inclusion while criticizing the Player's Choice game. The other three games were Street Fighter V, Super Smash Bros. Capcom 3, after having donated the most money for Make-A-Wish International via. A ninth game, a Player's Choice title, was later won by Ultimate Marvel vs. Melee's finals would be moved to the prime time spot on Saturday, contrast to its Sunday spot in the previous years. A major change among the Smash community was that Super Smash Bros. New additions included BlazBlue: Central Fiction, The King of Fighters XIV, and Injustice 2 while Guilty Gear Xrd REV 2 would replace Guilty Gear Xrd -REVELATOR. The games set to be contested consisted of new releases, FGC contemporaries, and updated releases. The nine games played at Evo 2017 were announced in January 2017 during a special announcement stream on Twitch, with event co-founder Joey Cuellar discussing the inclusion of each game. The first two days of the event were held in the Mandalay Bay Convention Center, while the final day was held in the Mandalay Bay Events Center like it had in 2016. Over 10,000 people registered for the event with Tekken 7 receiving double the number of players from the previous year.Ĭontrast to the previous year's event which took place in two venues, Evo 2017 took place in the Mandalay Bay resort for all three days of the event. The event offered tournaments for various fighting games, such as Street Fighter V, Tekken 7, and Injustice 2. The 2017 Evolution Championship Series (commonly referred to as Evo 2017) was a fighting game event held in Las Vegas on July 14–16 that was part of the long-running Evolution Championship Series. So Unstable Diffusion’s admins recruited volunteers - mostly Discord server members - to create porn datasets for fine-tuning Stable Diffusion.ĭespite a few bumps in the road, including bans from both Kickstarter and Patreon, Unstable Diffusion managed to roll out a fully fledged website with custom art-generating AI models. Only a small percentage of Stable Diffusion’s dataset contains NSFW material, giving the model little to go on when it comes to adult content. One of the more vanilla images created with Unstable Diffusion. Stable Diffusion, like all text-to-image AI systems, was trained on a dataset of billions of captioned images to learn the associations between written concepts and images, such as how the word “bird” can refer not only to bluebirds but parakeets and bald eagles in addition to far more abstract notions. And in time, the group’s organizers began exploring ways to build - and monetize - their own porn-generating models on top of Stable Diffusion. One group, Unstable Diffusion, grew especially quickly on Reddit, then Discord. When Stable Diffusion, the text-to-image AI model developed by Stability AI, was open sourced late last year, it didn’t take long for the internet to wield it for porn-creating purposes. None of this has deterred Unstable Diffusion, one of the original groups behind AI porn generators, from forging ahead. And workers in adult films and art have raised concerns about what this means for their livelihoods - and their industry. Reddit users have been scammed with AI porn models, meanwhile - sold explicit images of people who don’t exist. In one instance reported by Fox News, a 15-year-old boy was blackmailed by a member of an online gym enthusiast group who used generative AI to edit a photo of the boy’s bare chest into a nude. In an even more disturbing example of the ways in which generative porn tech is being used, there’s been a small but meaningful uptick in the amount of photorealistic AI-generated child sexual abuse material circulating on the dark web. Just a few months ago, a 22-year-old was sentenced to six months in jail for taking underage womens’ photos from social media and using them to create sexually explicit deepfakes. The vast majority of pornographic deepfakes on the web depict women, in truth - and frequently, they’re weaponized.Ī Washington Post piece recounts how a small-town school teacher lost her job after students’ parents learned about AI porn made in the teacher’s likeness without her consent. To this day, the targeted creators receive copies of the images via DMs as a form of harassment. The creator of the deepfaked images eventually succumbed to pressure, agreeing to delete them. Twitch personality Brandon Ewing, known online as Atrioc, was recently caught on stream looking at nonconsensually deepfaked sexual images of well-known women streamers on Twitch. No easy answersĪs AI porn and the tools to create it become commodified, they’re beginning to have frightening real-world impacts. As for the images, while they aren’t perfect, some could well be mistaken for professional artwork.Īnd the ethical questions have only grown. People in the synthetic porn had extra limbs or a nipple where their nose should be, among other disconcerting, fleshy contortions.įast-forward to today, and a search for “AI porn generator” turns up dozens of results across the web - many of which are free to use. The apps and the AI models underpinning them struggled to understand the nuances of anatomy, often generating physically bizarre subjects that wouldn’t be out of place in a Cronenberg film. And the results weren’t what anyone would call “good.” When TechCrunch covered efforts to create AI porn generators nearly a year ago, the apps were nascent and relatively few and far between. And like its more respectable sibling, it’s improving. As generative AI enters the mainstream, so, too, does AI-generated porn. The game’s highly replayable battlefields pair shuffled layouts from hand-crafted terrain tiles with subtle roguelite elements, challenging fighters to adapt and overcome unpredictable clashes as they master dynamic, strategic combat. Metal Slug Tactics is both a respectful homage to an all-time classic and an imaginative new way to celebrate the renowned series, channeling its timeless aesthetic through gorgeous pixel art and fluid animation. If you’re used to seeing these guys do run n’ gun and are wondering what turned Marco, Eri, Fio, and Tarma in a different direction - here’s the overview of this unique entry to the series via press release! Unfortunately we don’t have more stuff to talk about, and the only news from Dotemu is that the game will be available for PC and Nintendo Switch and it’s still a work in progress so, needs more time to improve the combat system at its best, delaying the launch date to a generic 2023.The Metal Slug series is coming back in a whole new way next year, as Dotemu and Leikir Studio confirm that Metal Slug Tactics is getting a 2022 release date - and a Nintendo Switch version has been announced as well!Īlong with the announcement, here’s a brand new gameplay trailer showing the game in action! Last but not least we have a gameplay feature called Sync.Īt first look it seems a classic flanking maneuver that allows you to hit an enemy from different sides with your member’s squad. Thinking that these last should be a trump card against buildings, thanks to some environmental destruction of the stages. We can use the classic fireguns, mecha and battle tanks of the Metal Slug saga. The challenging and roguelite feature seems to be based on a different and handed conformation of the battle stages during the missions. We can improve our characters and get them stronger thanks to a skill tree and perks system. We can guess from the trailers and the software house’s words that we will be facing a game based on a strategic/tactical turn system with RPG and roguelite components. There are some easter eggs from Metal Slug and other SNK games like King of Fighters and Fatal Fury, which will surely delight the longtime fans of the Japanese software house. We can recognize references about the world of Metal Slug, the main characters, the classic enemies and the iconic boss fights. The environments and the battlegrounds took inspiration from the old saga’s stages. The art direction looks very inspired too: Talkin’ about the technical aspect of the trailer, we can see a good looking and well designed pixel art, with the classic camera angle of a strategic/tactical turn based game. We will be able to choose between 4 playable characters from the classic saga: Marco, Eri, Fio and Tarma. The Peregrine Falcon Squad is back to face their old enemies and save the world once again. Thanks to these two trailers, we can try to talk about its early features and gameplay. On June 8, 2021, Dotemu showed the first reveal trailer about the game and later on 11 August a short gameplay trailer. Only playable on the arcade version at first, it also found its place in home consoles, with a total of nine titles to his credit. Metal slug is one of the most popular and iconic run’n’gun series, and between 19 made the history of the genre winning the player’s hearts and gaining critics acclaim. More: Robert Plant on Greta Van Fleet: 'They are Led Zeppelin' More: Meet the Michigan grandma who inspired Greta Van Fleet's name The group, whose management team was already based there, had become acquainted with Music City during recording sessions for its debut full-length album. Having grown up in tiny Frankenmuth, cutting their teeth in that area and eventually Detroit, band members officially settled in Nashville last year. In January, as promotion for the coming album ramped up, the single “My Way, Soon” became the latest rock chart-topper for the band of brothers and their childhood pal: twins Josh Kiszka (vocals) and Jake Kiszka (guitar) - turning 25 next week - with Sam Kiszka and Danny Wagner (drums), both 22. The new album is the first featuring the services of veteran producer Greg Kurstin, best known for his work with Adele, Paul McCartney and the Foo Fighters. “We went into this hoping to make a record that was fit to be the score of a fantastic film,” said bassist-keyboardist Sam Kiszka, who plays that organ intro on leadoff track “Heat Above.” “The Battle of Garden’s Gate,” released Friday, is the spiritually tinged, Technicolor-toned second album from a young hard-rock band that says it wanted to capture the personal growth and worldly experiences that accompanied the group’s international rise. The shimmering swirl of a Hammond B3 organ, a sound straight from the gospel church, opens Greta Van Fleet’s new album like a statement: We’ve got something a little different in mind this time. Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. The trackpad does feature a deactivation button which is handy during extended typing sessions. One reviewer even commented that the design almost called out for two handed use – strange for a trackpad, stranger still for a device with a keyboard so directly aimed at touch-typists. Virtually everyone else who has reviewed the Mini-Note has commented on non-standard button placement as “awkward” or “design-retarded”, so we aren’t alone there. This change - while minor - does take some getting used to. HP designed the trackpad with the right and left mouse buttons off to the sides instead of the traditional bottom placement. While the roomy keyboard makes typing a pleasure, the included trackpad is cramped and can feel awkward to use. The large keys have a decent travel and provide reasonable amounts of feedback which allow typing at a user’s normal speed. Unlike some other ultra-portable computers, any touch-typist should have no problem typing away on the Mini-Note right out of the box with a very minimal learning curve. The keyboard is nearly full-sized and surprisingly easy to type on. While typing upon the Mini-Note’s keyboard it’s easy to see the benefit of having the larger keyboard, versus the Eee PC. Unfortunately the clean line is somewhat disturbed by the fact that the included battery sticks out significantly, however this does help raise the notebook up slightly on the desk it’s placed upon, which helps increase airflow and eases typing strain on the users wrists. The Mini-Note features rounded corners, and a mostly sleek exterior. While larger than the Eee PC or other ultra-portables in that class, it’s still significantly smaller than any other laptops on the market, ranking in at about the size of the average hardcover book. The most striking thing about the HP Mini-note is its compact design. We’ve got an HP Mini-Note unboxing gallery for you to check out if you want to see how the thing looks from all angles, and of course, you can click through for Gear Live’s in-depth review of the HP Mini-Note 2133’s features, capabilities, and user experience, below. While its up-to-$850 price tag places it in a significantly different category than the Eee PC and other cheap sub-notebooks, it easily makes up for this price difference with functionality and power approaching that of its larger siblings: full sized laptops. Amidst a flurry of small and seemingly underpowered netbooks, HP has taken a slightly different tact in their release of the surprisingly capable HP Mini-Note device. |
